From 9 to 11 June 2026, the first kick-off meeting of the international research network “SPACER” took place at the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague. Prof. Roth, Dr Leykam and Anshuman Gupta attended on behalf of our department. A total of 17 PhD students from several countries will be working together in future on a new generation of electrodes for redox-flow batteries – with the aim of increasing their power density by 20 to 30 per cent and reducing costs by up to 50 per cent, whilst achieving an energy efficiency of over 85 to 90 per cent.

The focus is on hierarchically structured multilayer materials, which are developed, manufactured (including via stereolithography and 3D printing) and validated using modern imaging techniques at the micro, meso and macro levels.

SPACER is coordinated by Fraunhofer ICT and funded under the EU’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Programme (Grant Agreement No. 101226997). Further information: www.rfb-spacer.eu
