Overview

On July 5th, 2024, our contribution to the workshops of the Faculty of Engineering for the TAO SFZ took place.

Interested students in grades 7 to 9 learned

"How peach pits and nutshells are used to create a carbon material for use in batteries"

The enthusiastic students learned from Professor Christina Roth what batteries are all about, how they are constructed and how they work. Carbon materials are of great importance in the construction of batteries and can be obtained from renewable raw materials. In the laboratories, we made carbon materials from biomass such as peach pits ourselves and processed them to the extent that they can be used in electrical storage devices. We took a close look at the structure of our biochar under the microscope before we incorporated the materials into batteries, whose function we then checked.
