Visit to AABC Europe in Strasbourg: Innovative Research from Our Chair

From May 14 to 16, 2024, the members from BayBatt/ Chair of Electrochemical Process Engineering/ Keylab Glass Technology Wiebke Hagemeier, Tilo Held, Julius Küfner, and Philipp Rank attended the renowned Advanced Automotive Battery Conference (AABC) Europe in Strasbourg. The conference provided an excellent platform for exchanging ideas with leading experts from academia and industry and discussing the latest developments in battery research.

Our team presented posters on various current research areas of the chair in different sessions:

  • Silicon Anodes for Lithium-Ion Batteries (LiBs): We presented an innovative spray coating process and the latest results on our Si-rGO thin-film and Si-C composite electrodes, which have the potential to significantly improve the energy density and lifespan of LiBs.
  • Glass Separators for Lithium-Ion Batteries: Another focus was the development of innovative separator concepts to enhance battery safety. We presented the latest findings on the direct application of glass particles as a separator layer on electrodes. These electrode-supported separators can be applied using blade or spray coating, impacting not only morphology but also battery performance.
  • Anode Materials for Sodium-Ion Batteries (SiBs): The focus was on the carbon derivative reduced graphene oxide (rGO), which impresses with high energy densities and excellent cycle stability. Particularly noteworthy is the production method using reactive spray drying, a technique characterized by short processing times and the integration of multiple processing steps.

The visit to AABC Europe enabled us to establish valuable contacts and initiate new collaborations. We look forward to incorporating the insights gained into our future research and contributing to the advancement of battery technology.
